INSURANCE FIRM’S EX-DEVELOPMENT OFFICER GETS THREE YEARS’ RI, FINE

INDORE: The special judge for the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court, Indore, on Monday sentenced Inderjeet Singh Bhatia – the former development officer, Divisional Office- I of the United India Insurance Company Limited here – to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh in a disproportionate assets case. The CBI had registered the case in February 2003 against Bhatia under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the allegations that he amassed a huge wealth of over Rs 20 lakh (Rs 20,70,882), which was disproportionate to his known sources of income.
